Want a Thrill? Take A Ride On The Swing At The End Of The World

It’s known as the Swing at the End of the World and is considered a bucket list item for many people. In fact, a ride on the Swing is more of an experience rather than a simple sightseeing adventure. And, while you certainly will sightsee, you will do so while swinging on a small wooden board with two ropes attached to a very rustic and rickety-looking tree house - over 8,500 feet above sea level - with nothing to catch you if you fall.

The Swing at the End of the World is located at La Casa Del Arbol in Banos, Ecuador. If you gather the courage to actually get on the Swing, you will be treated to an adrenaline rush like no other and will view and experience scenery found nowhere else in the world. As a result, it is called one of the most beautiful and insanely terrifying experiences one can live through.

As the name suggests, the Swing at the End of the World is not exactly easy to get to. It really feels like it as at Earth’s end. First, you must get yourself to Ecuador. Then, you need to take a bus to the tiny city of Banos. Once you arrive in Banos, you either must walk or find a rental car to travel the long road to Bellavista. It is here that you will locate La Casa del Arbol station - a tiny, wooden, rickety-looking shack sitting upon the upper branches of a large tree that slants over a steep cliff. And, attached to that little shack is a wooden swing on which brave visitors can take a ride over said cliff.

No safety harness; no extra straps; just a wooden seat and two ropes attached to that tiny little tree house.

Although visitors can certainly experience some breathtaking scenery from the edge of the 8,500-foot cliff, it is the looking up, down and all around while swinging in the air that provides a whole different level of excitement. While many people get to the swing and decide not to take the ride, many go through with it and describe it as a once-in-a-lifetime thrill.

So, if you wish to experience breathtaking visions of greenery, mountains, the sky, the water below (if in fact you can see that far) and the famous Tungurahua volcano - all while hovering in mid-air, taking a ride on the Swing at the End of the World is for you.
